This sculptural work lists the names of thousands of glaciers in the Alps that are melting due to global warming. As a memorial, the sculpture serves to remember the glaciers that are on the verge of disappearing forever because of climate change. The list of glaciers in the Alps has been compiled by Paolo Cirio through a comparison of several databases and glaciological research. The memorial represents a past geological era, the dying ecosystems that inhabit the glaciers, and the cultural heritage tied to them. The United Nations has declared 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation. This sculpture is part of the
Climate Tribunal series, placing the memorial in relation to climate justice and the accountability of the fossil fuel economy that caused the glaciers to die.
